About Game Shows Resources

Game shows are a popular aspect of television today no matter where you are located in the world. They can vary in format and popularity for age of viewing, but essentially game shows are readily seen on television no matter what time of the day it is or what television network you choose to watch. This type of television viewing is generally light-hearted, easy to follow and can be enjoyed at any time of the year as opposed to television shows that follow a plot, contain reoccurring characters and often you need to know the background information in order to follow along with the episodes.

Games shows have evolved over the years as the viewing public's personal interests have changed. Before the age of television, there were even game shows that were broadcast over the radio for many listeners to enjoy. Local television networks have conducted many studies and focus groups in order to find out exactly what types of game shows people would be willing to watch or which types they find interesting enough to spend their spare time enjoying at home. There have been many game shows that are still in production today and are enjoyed by thousands even after years of successful viewing while other game shows only last a season or two depending on the viewing audience. If the desired ratings are not reached for a new upcoming game show, then it may be pulled off the air in order to make room for more popular game show viewing.

Money along with large, extravagant prizes including vacation trips or goods and services are just some of the major attractions that entice the public to compete on game shows today. There are many game shows that are designed for individuals to compete against each other in a number of activities or events while others are specialized for teams of competitors in order to compete together against other teams involved. Some game shows have incorporated celebrity figures such as popular actors and actresses as members of the game show, either to work alongside the game show attendees or as a rival member participating for the end prizes. Typically when celebrity figures compete during game shows, if there is a large sum of money involved as a final prize it is usually donated to a local charity of their choice.

Today's public television viewing of game shows will still continue to have standard formats that have been popular for a number of years and will essentially be enjoyed by the viewing public for years to come. Shows such as The Price Is Right and Family Feud have been classic game shows that have aired for years. Other game shows today have evolved to include more of a reality theme and require the participants to fulfill a number of duties or activities in real life that they may not otherwise participate in. These reality game shows have increasingly become more and more popular, and a number of different game shows air today that are based on this reality principle. Survivor is just one of the many reality game shows that have become increasingly popular with the viewing public as they were introduced.
